Modeled by the very photogenic Sorai. I had a lot of fun with this hat. I especially love using scraps of fabric that may have otherwise been discarded. The owl’s iris was made using the waist band of a wool skirt, pieces too small for a quilt or hooking a rug.
I wanted to post something today….I had been thinking of a favorite quote and thought I’d include it.
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions”
a favorite book of mine by Rilke is Letters to a young poet. While reading about him this morning I realized all the letters were written between the ages of 27-33 years of age. wise young man.
“We travel together, passengers on a little spaceship, dependent on it’s vulnerable reserves of air and soil, all committed, for our safety, to it’s security and peace. Preserved from annihilation only by the care, the work and the love we give our fragile craft.”
I am sorry it’s taken me so long to post, I’ve been a little down in the mouth, as they say. Sometimes when I feel like that, I’m not sure what I have to say…so I had to wait to feel a little more cheery. Nothing major going on, just regular life stuff. Feeling a little Thelma and Louise….if that makes any sense……
I found an article and photo of work by an architect, Nader Khalili , who builds eco friendly kiln fired homes. I have known of his work, from my friend Darlene. She read a book about his work many years ago, and admired his vision. I like these homes, always loved ceramics, the idea of living in a giant earthen sculpture intrigues me. I’m not sure what would be cooler, a tree house or kiln fired home….. what do you think?
Wow…what a fun day. I’ve gotten the chance to have a booth at a local shop, and will be working there occasionally, helping out. It was such a blast to be around other people that are creative in similar ways as me. A bunch of people that are visually oriented and love old things..it was cool. I was surrounded by old smells, vintage fabrics, cool vintage furniture and silly, funny people. The customers were happy and it was fun to look at their treasures and even sell a few things I’d brought in…….there is a certain rush when someone sees enough value in what you have collected to buy it. Here are a few pictures for all of you who like old things. enjoy!
